Kathryn Porter is an independent energy consultant with over 25 years’ experience of the energy and finance sectors in both leadership and technical roles. She has specific expertise in the utilities, oil and gas sectors, with finance experience spanning equities and equity derivatives, debt capital markets, M&A, loans, and risk management, and has acted as an Expert in energy related matters.
Kathryn currently runs her own independent energy consulting business, advising clients active across the energy value chain in strategy and business development, commercial contract negotiation, risk management and hedging, and transaction due diligence, as well as providing bespoke market intelligence and analysis. Her clients include energy traders, generators, suppliers and developers of embedded and behind-the-meter generation and battery schemes, as well as regulators and providers of ancillary products and services. They range from small local businesses to large multi-national corporations, banks and regulators.
She also provides market analysis on her blog: www.watt-logic.com/blog and is a regular commentator on energy matters in the media, being widely quoted in the press and with an opinion column in the Telegraph newspaper. She also regularly speaks at industry conferences including Energy Trading Week, IE Week and Flame, and is a regular contributor to podcasts hosted around the world including the Canadian Global Affairs Institute Energy Security Cubed Podcast, the Institute for Economic Affairs (London), the Power Hungry Podcast (Texas) and Merryn Talks Money on Bloomberg.
Previous roles include senior positions at Centrica, Société Générale, EDF Trading and Barclays Capital. Kathryn holds a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Exeter and an MBA from London Business School. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, and a member of the Institute of Directors.
Kathryn has held a number of non-executive roles. She is currently an associate member (as a non- Parliamentarian) of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies, helping to drive the group’s agenda, and is a Trustee of The Kids’ Cookery School, a London-based charity focused on teaching cooking and nutrition skills to children. She recently stepped down from the Board of the Royal Choral Society after nine years, at the expiry of her term as a Director and Trustee.
